Does Alkaline Ionized water Contain Antioxidants?

Updated: Jun 13, 2023

Alkaline ionized water is water that has been treated through a process called electrolysis, which separates the water into two streams: one with a higher pH level (alkaline) and one with a lower pH level (acidic).

The alkaline ionized water is believed to have antioxidant properties, due to the presence of negatively charged ions called "hydroxyl ions" or "hydroxide ions."

It is thought that these hydroxyl ions can help neutralize free radicals in the body, which are unstable molecules that can damage cells and contribute to the development of diseases such as cancer, heart disease, and Alzheimer's disease. By neutralizing free radicals, alkaline ionized water may help prevent or reduce cellular damage, inflammation, and oxidative stress.

Here is one such video which shows how Alkaline Ionized Zoss Water may work as an antioxidant.

A study published in the Journal of Clinical Biochemistry and Nutrition in 2009 investigated the effects of alkaline ionized water on antioxidant enzyme activities in mice. The study found that the mice given alkaline ionized water had increased levels of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione peroxidase (GPx), which are both antioxidant enzymes. The authors of the study suggested that these findings support the potential use of alkaline ionized water as a dietary antioxidant.
